Los Cabos - Baja California Sur

Los Cabos - Baja California Sur

Given the natural beauty of the Los Cabos area, it seems destined to have become a world class tourism center. Los Cabos is at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula , which extends nearly 800 miles south from its border with California .

“Los Cabos” literally means “the capes” or “the tips,” referring to the two towns that occupy this extraordinary location: San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.

These towns are just 20 miles apart, linked by the Transpeninsula Highway corridor, but they have very distinct identities. Cabo San Lucas is well known for its perpetual party atmosphere. It has many excellent restaurants and colorful night spots that tend to attract the younger visitors who give the town its vibrancy.

By contrast, San José del Cabo is a Spanish colonial town with small cafes, charming boutiques and a quiet, serene ambiance.

Deep sea fishing enthusiasts “discovered” Cabo San Lucas in the 50's and 60's, although access to the area was then principally by private plane or yacht.

The Los Cabos International Airport , built in the 1980's, opened the area to a much broader tourism clientele. Today, the Los Cabos area is a first choice for avid golfers – you can play a different course each day for a week.

Golf and deep sea fishing are still major attractions. But today, there is a much richer variety of vacation activities, including every imaginable type of water sport from scuba diving (with trained instructors) to surfing, sailing, kayaking and jet skiing.

Because of the great diversity of natural flora and fauna near Los Cabos, Eco Tourism has become very popular, including guided day tours to the area's beautiful mountain desert. Whale watching tours are also very popular, and you can also “Swim with the Dolphins”. Your concierge can help with reservations for any of the dozens of tours that can introduce you to the best of Los Cabos.

Of course, many visitors choose less vigorous activity, such as enjoying a boat cruise with dinner. And, the endless white sand beaches that line the Los Cabos coast bring visitors with no ambition beyond a day at the beach in the sun, margarita in hand. Los Cabos has it all.
