Fall is a great time to be in Puerto Vallarta. The mountains are a lush emerald green from the summer rains. The town is quiet and every merchant, every waiter, every bartender, every hotel employee is very happy to see you after the long absence of visitors from the U.S. and Canada.

Costs are generally lower and you can stroll through the town with a sense of its history as a Mexican fishing village before its “discovery” in the mid-sixties.

But even in the fall offseason, there are lots of activities and events in Vallarta. See the listings below, which are just a sampling.

Vallarta is back in top form after a difficult year for all major tourism destinations. The best restaurants and nightclubs are open. The Botanical Gardens and canopy tours await you. All of the tour companies are operating, bringing people into the jungle and across the bay to the beautiful deserted beaches. Some of the best golf courses in the hemisphere are ready for you – with no tee time waits! You won't need to reserve at any of the best restaurants in town.

So come on down! Off season is the best season!

Puerto Vallarta has had a hard year – like every other tourism destination in the world. But in 08-09, the town had to overcome a triple threat from which it is just now recovering.

First, there were the persistent, sensationalist news reports of “drug wars in Mexico” – without any distinction between the troubled border zones and the rest of the country. Most Americans who live in Vallarta continue to report that they feel safer here than in many of their home communities in the US.

Then of course, the global economy entered a severe recession, with the “green shoots” of recovery only now beginning to appear. Regular flights were canceled, hotel reservations were canceled – in fact, the entire 08-09 season was cancelled for many “Vallartenses” who depend on strong winter occupancies to carry them through the long summer and autumn months (the best time to be in Vallarta).

And then the swine flu scare hit us. Although there were just a few scattered reports of the flu in the State of Jalisco, somehow, once again, all of Mexico was perceived as a dangerous place to travel.

The only danger here in Vallarta is that you, our members, will be reluctant to come back home to Puerto Vallarta, where the surf is up, the fresh seafood is on the grill and the tangy margaritas are frozen just the way you like them. Come on back for our recovery – and yours!

We're Alive and Well!

To All of Our Club Members:

Sure, the last year has been a very tough time for any company in the hospitality business, and the PDS Group is no exception. We have had to tighten our belts and ask a lot from our employees to get through this period of deep recession in the travel industry – all the more extreme here in Puerto Vallarta.

We have had to put several new projects on hold until the coming year, and place special emphasis on cost controls.

But our staff has met the challenge and they have remained devoted to providing the highest level of service to our members and guests. The hotels are in good condition and as always, our friendly staff will welcome you home at your arrival here.

So don't worry. Be happy. Come to Puerto Vallarta and enjoy your membership in one of the most beautiful places in the hemisphere.

The Playa del Sol Group

Playa del Sol Costa Sur has been accepted as a Howard Johnson Hotel, and will be renamed “Howard Johnson Hotel, Puerto Vallarta”.

There are now more than 450 Howard Johnson hotels in 16 countries. All Howard Johnson hotels are members of the Wyndham Hotel Group, the world's largest lodging franchisor with nearly 7000 member hotels worldwide.

Ken Molinaro, CEO of the Playa del Sol Group, said, “We are very pleased to become the only Howard Johnson hotel in the Puerto Vallarta area.”

“The Wyndham Hotel Group has very exacting standards for its Howard Johnson brand, and we are gratified that our Costa Sur property has been invited to join this prestigious hotel organization. We will be making some upgrades at the property over the coming year, but Costa Sur is a well run resort with excellent management. The transition to Howard Johnson's operating standards will be achieved within the next few months,” Molinaro said.

Our timeshare members will only gain from the professionalism that the Howard Johnson branding program will bring to the resort's operations. For our club members, the resort will have the following name: Playa del Sol Club, Costa Sur .

The same friendly staff will greet you at the same tranquil resort just south of town.

You may have heard one of the many rumors circulating about the transition to the Howard Johnson flag and franchise. Here are some accurate answers:

  • No, Costa Sur has not been sold to Howard Johnson.
  • No, Costa Sur is not going bankrupt.
  • No, your membership and use rights will not be negatively affected in any way.
  • Yes, you will be welcomed, as usual, to your resort, Costa Sur.

Don't forget to confirm your use dates.

Our Los Cabos property was temporarily closed in June due to the almost complete absence of vacation travel to that area. Stay tuned for news on the reopening of the Los Cabos resort.

Watch Out for Rental Scams
Once again, our members are being called by persons pretending to offer rental services for timeshare intervals, in return for a fee. They will ask you for an advance payment in order to be a part of their rental program. Don't ever pay in advance for rental services.

Reservations for High Season: Call Now!
The global recession has made it easier for all travelers to reserve stays in major destinations. Vallarta is no exception.

But you need to call now for high season reservations. We do still have availability for a lot of winter dates, so don't wait!

Lindo Mar Resort in Vallarta
We want to remind members that the Playa del Sol Group has inventory at Lindo Mar, one of the most charming small hotels in Vallarta. It is located just south of town, and very close to all of the “action” in the Old Town / Romantic Zone area of Vallarta. Ask the Call Center for information on availability. It limited at this small condo resort, so call soon.

Janzu Water Massage & Movement Therapy

Janzu is the aquatic new age therapeutic technique, which means "pacific water" in the Chinese language. Its main quality is the unblocking of physical, emotional and mental energy.

Weightless, with no pressure on the spine and no stress on the joints, the body becomes deeply relaxed and can be managed in many therapeutic ways.
